About NetBIOS DDoS

NetBIOS DDoS

NetBIOS protocol allows devices in the network to communicate and transmit data across the network. NetBIOS can be abused to carry out DDoS attacks.

Recommendations for users:

  • Restrict a device’s NetBIOS service accessibility from the Internet. The router and firewall should be set to prevent UDP protocol ports 137, 138 and TCP protocol port 139 from being accessed from the outside;
  • If it is not in use, disable the NetBIOS service in routers.
