Description:

TrojanDownloader.Renos is a malicious software code, also known as a Trojan. Downloads an additional malicious component to your computer that loads an icon into your taskbar. When you click on the icon, a message pops up claiming that your computer has a security breach and should be scanned with the offered software. If you agree, the trojan downloads additional malware onto your computer. The program is made to seem like it’s a legitimate anti-virus program. While it’s pretending to scan your computer, it’s actually downloading even more malware.

The trojan is often distributed via free software, and can be downloaded by other malware.

Recommendations:

• Install or update used device protection systems;
• Scan your computer with an anti-virus program;
• Install operating system and application updates;
• Do not click on suspicious links in emails and websites.
