What is a Proxy?
Proxy
Vulnerable computer systems and applications:
Service stations, routers, computers.
Description:
Proxy Server is a service station or router, which forwards requests to the recipient’s service station. An open proxy server (ATS) is a proxy server that processes queries from any IP addresses. Proxy servers typically serve a limited number of users (for example, users of a local network only). The proxy server can be open either because the owner set it up so or due to an incorrect configuration.
There are 2 main risks associated with ATS:
- Hides the malicious IP address;
- Can give the attacker access to the internal network that contains the ATS.
Recommendations:
- Use licensed software;
- Keep service station software updated;
- Use antivirus program;
- Configure the proxy server without leaving the ability to accept queries from any IP addresses.
